Hello all. I usually do not post questions but I need an opinion. I really want a new digital camer for christmas. My family though says it is a waste of time because I am totally blind. Well, my thing is I feel that if I was at a party, or somewhere I want my own camra even if someone is taking the pics for me. So do you people feel it is ok for blind people to have cameras? Let me know.

Sure! Why not? Have anything you want if it makes you feel happy!

I don't see why not. If you have sited friends then you can still post pictures online so it wouldn't be a waste.

I agree, it may seem odd but...hey, go for it!

I don't think you need to justify this to anyone. I mean, there are a lot of things that are difficult for a blind person to use independently, and this is going to enter into a blind person's decision about buying or asking for any given product, but it's an individual choice. Hell, i'd buy a car if I had someone to drive it.

i have a digital camra, and it's easy for me to use. I can set it myself and then tell sighted people how to set it. I can also take the memory card out of it and put the card in my pc, so i do0n't have to use inaccessible software to get the pics off the camra. go for the camra if you want it.

Hey reclusive thinker, I did buy a car because I had a kid who could drive it.

rainbowjess88, A camera might be on the bottom of my Christmas wish list, but that's me and not you.

So, I'd say, go for it if it seems like you would be interested in working with it. Sounds like you've given it some thought.

Enjoy your camera, and no posting pictures on the zone. <lol>

I took loads of pictures the other day whilst out with friends and apparently some of them came out really well. The great thing about digital cameras is that blind people can take pictures and not worry about wasting film. Enjoy the camera!

Oh my God! I want a digital camera so bad too! Damn. I don't see why ppl think that just cause you're blind you can't/shouldn't use cameras and enjoy having pics even though you personally can't see them! lol Most of my friends have sight so I wanna have a camera while hanging out with them and post them up on myspace for my friends to enjoy or just have the pics for remembering things by. When I do get one, which will be after I get my mixer and new comp, I wanna print them out and start my own photo collection. lol I also wanna get a digital picture frame too just cause I think they're cool. haha
And to Grizzly Bear, do you have any sight at all? Cause I'm interested in uploading my own pictures myself and wondered how you did it. lol Cause I know there are things you have to take in to consideration like the size of a picture and all that.
But yeah. I think it's awesome that a blind person would want a digital camera too. lol It means I'm not the only one... haha

Well we all have digital cameras on the bakcs of our mobile/cell phones don't we? so why not get a digital camera, even if it means spending your Chrimbly money on it?

Hope you got it for xmas. I ask for one last year from my mom and got it without a question asked. I've always been fascinated with photos, and I've never been able to see them. Anyways, my husband usually takes the pics, but I do sometimes, and I enjoy them at least as much as he does; if not more.

Blind people can use those pictures to create a scrapbook. we can just write a little caption, describing the photo and put it on the same page as the picture itself, so when we look back on it later, the memory is still alive. *smile*

Rainbowjess, I hope you got your camera. But if you haven't been able to change your family's mind about it, you might have to get it yourself. Did you get any Christmas money? Maybe use that and buy it. I'm totally blind as well, and I imagine my family would react in a very similar way if I said I wanted a digital camera. But to heck with it. You have good rationale for why you want it. And even if you didn't, do whatever makes you happy.

I have a normal camera with a film inside. It's one of those really old ones with a windy thing on it, but I don't really care. I mostly like taking pictures of or getting other people to take pictures of animals. The only thing is, I've put lots of photographs in a photo album and can't remember who their of and the person describing them to me probably won't know the animals.

That's why digitals are great, cuz you can label the files.

That's what I do. Date and then what it's of. LOL. Glad I do have it cause got some photos that my Mom didn't back at my niece's birthday, and now she needs copies of what I got; some pretty good ones too. *smile*

Post 23 by wildebrew (We promised the world we'd tame it, what were we hoping for?) on Monday, 07-Jan-2008 14:03:21

I wanted to take a photography course in university, I mean, why not, I could take pics with a digital camera and name them "pictures born from darkness" or something equally artsy, heck, people puke on canvas and lacker over it and then sell it for good amounts as abstract art, don't see why a blind person taking pictures couldn't create something that is considered artsy by sufficiently weird buyers. So, heck, go ahead, take your photos, whilst your at it, give your deaf friends head phones, shampoo to your bald friends and free weightwatcher subscription to the starving kids in Somalia.
